Mizoram PSC JSO recruitment 2026 has opened 12 Junior Scientific Officer vacancies in the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory under the state Home Department. Applications are online, and the Mizoram Public Service Commission will accept them until 4 PM on August 27, 2026.

DNA and Fingerprint have three posts each. Chemistry has two. Ballistics and Toolmarks, Questioned Documents, Photography and Cyber Forensic have one post apiece. The total is 12 Group B, non-gazetted positions at Level 7 in the pay matrix.

The job is not limited to laboratory bench work. The notice says Junior Scientific Officers may examine forensic exhibits, attend crime scenes, document and preserve evidence, maintain chain of custody, operate division-specific instruments, prepare reports, assist investigating agencies and appear in court as expert witnesses. That scope makes the discipline selection important from the first application screen.

Each forensic division has its own degree rule

The DNA posts accept an M.Sc. in Forensic Science, Human Genetics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics or Molecular Biology. Fingerprint and Questioned Documents require an M.Sc. in Forensic Science from a recognized university or institute.

Chemistry accepts an M.Sc. in Forensic Science, Chemistry or Biochemistry. Ballistics and Toolmarks accepts an M.Sc. in Forensic Science, Physics, Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, as well as a B.E. in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.

Photography has a different technical route: an M.Sc. in Forensic Science with Digital or Multimedia Forensics specialization, or B.E./B.Tech. or higher in Computer Science or Electronics. Cyber Forensic accepts several digital-forensics and computing pathways, including relevant M.Sc. degrees, B.Tech. or higher in Cyber or Digital Forensics, MCA, M.Sc. IT, or B.E. and above in Computer Science.

Working experience in a recognized forensic science laboratory is desirable for all seven divisions, not stated as mandatory. Applicants should still upload proof when they have it because the Commission will assess the records submitted through the portal.

Age and language conditions need separate proof

Candidates must be at least 18 and not more than 30 years old on August 1, 2026. The official notice allows up to five years of upper-age relaxation for SC and ST candidates, along with any relaxation notified by the government. Accepted age proof includes HSLC or HSSLC certificates, voter ID or a digitized birth certificate that clearly shows the date of birth.

Mizo language proficiency is also part of eligibility. A candidate generally needs the prescribed qualifying standard. The notice exempts applicants who studied Mizo as a subject in Class 10 or above within Mizoram, or took Mizo as MIL outside the state. The exemption still needs documentary support in the application.

Computer proficiency is a mandatory condition

The notification separately requires computer proficiency under the Mizoram service and recruitment rules. It is not the same as holding a science degree. Candidates need to upload proof of computer proficiency in the assigned field of the online profile.

This matters particularly for applicants whose degree includes computing subjects but whose certificate does not clearly establish the rule-based proficiency condition. The safest reading is to follow the document requirement exactly rather than assume the Commission will infer it from a course title.

August 27 documents decide candidature

Mizoram PSC says candidature will be assessed from documents uploaded through the online portal. Mandatory records include marksheets and certificates from HSLC upward, computer-proficiency proof, Mizo-language proof, SC or ST certificate where claimed, proof of birth date and the qualification records for the chosen forensic division.

Where the profile asks for a certificate and marksheet together, the notice tells candidates to combine them in one PDF or photograph them together clearly. Password-protected or otherwise locked files are treated as not uploaded. Changes made after the closing date will not count for this recruitment.

How to apply on the MPSC online portal

1. Step 1: Open the official Mizoram PSC online portal and create an account if one does not already exist.
2. Step 2: Complete One-Time Registration early enough for the profile to be checked.
3. Step 3: Select Junior Scientific Officer and the correct forensic division.
4. Step 4: Enter education, age, language and computer-proficiency details exactly as the documents show.
5. Step 5: Upload every mandatory record, using the Others field for supporting material without a dedicated slot.
6. Step 6: Pay any applicable fee through the permitted route; PwD candidates are exempt under the notice.
7. Step 7: Confirm that the application status shows submitted after payment, then retain the acknowledgement.

The Commission specifically warns that payment alone does not prove submission. A candidate who pays but does not verify the final status may not have a valid application.

The recruitment uses a direct examination

Advertisement 18/2026-27 says Mizoram PSC will conduct a Direct Recruitment Examination and points candidates to the Commission website for the syllabus. It does not set out a detailed multi-stage selection timetable in the vacancy notice.
