Role details

Bharat Electronics Limited has opened registration for 56 temporary engineering posts under its Homeland Security and Smart City Business SBU. The [BEL job notifications page](https://bel-india.in/job-notifications/) lists the recruitment for project sites in Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, and the [detailed BEL advertisement](https://bel-india.in/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Final-Web-Advertisement-IPSS-2026.pdf) says online registration is open from 20 May to 8 June 2026.

The opening covers Field Operation Engineer and Project Engineer-I roles. This is a contract-style engineering opportunity for candidates with electronics, communication, mechanical, electrical, computer science, information technology or MCA backgrounds, backed by post-qualification experience. Candidates tracking PSU hiring can also compare this with Pagalishor's current [PSU recruitment watch](https://www.pagalishor.in/articles/psu-recruitment-may-2026-nalco-mcl-and-sbi-windows), but this BEL notice has a distinct walk-in selection model.

The application deadline is close. Candidates must register online first; BEL says candidates who have not registered will not be allowed to appear for walk-in selections. That single line makes the 8 June date more than a reminder. It controls access to the selection process.

## BEL is hiring for HLS and Smart City projects

The advertisement is for BEL's Homeland Security and Smart City Business SBU at Bengaluru Complex. The roles are tied to project sites in Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Candidates should be willing to be posted at the listed project locations and to travel across India when project work demands it.

There are 25 Field Operation Engineer posts and 31 Project Engineer-I posts. BEL says vacancies may increase or decrease based on actual requirement at the discretion of management. The reservation table is role-wise, so candidates should read the role they are applying for rather than relying only on the combined total.

This is not a generic graduate engineer form. The work described in the notice points to networking, data-centre operations, database administration, firewall, routing, switching, Linux basics and related project support. Candidates with only academic exposure should compare their record against the experience requirement before applying.

## The June 8 registration deadline controls entry

BEL says online registrations are open from 20 May 2026 to 8 June 2026. Registrations received in any other format will not be considered. Candidates have to use the links or QR code provided through the official website and advertisement.

The notice also says candidates who have not registered will not be allowed to appear for walk-in selections. That means a candidate cannot simply arrive at a venue with documents and expect entry if the online registration step was missed.

Because the selection venue and timing will be published later for eligible candidates, the first task is clean registration. Save the submitted form that arrives by email, because BEL asks candidates to carry the printout with documents at the selection centre.

## Field Operation Engineer requires five years of experience

Field Operation Engineer has 25 posts and an upper age limit of 40 years as on 1 June 2026 for general and EWS candidates, with relaxation for eligible reserved categories. The role accepts B.E., B.Tech, four-year B.Sc Engineering, M.E., M.Tech or MCA in the listed branches.

The experience requirement is five years of relevant post-qualification work experience. BEL names networking, data-centre operations and database administration, along with knowledge of firewall, AAA server, routing protocols, switching protocols, VLAN, port security, DNS, CCNA basics, IP addressing, subnetting and Linux basics.

This is the senior option in the notice. Candidates should apply for it only if service certificates can prove relevant post-qualification industrial experience. Teaching, academic or research work is not counted as relevant post-qualification industrial experience in the notice.

## Project Engineer-I is the two-year route

Project Engineer-I has 31 posts and an upper age limit of 32 years as on 1 June 2026 for general and EWS candidates. The educational branches overlap with the Field Operation Engineer route, but the experience requirement is lower.

BEL asks for two years of relevant post-qualification work experience for Project Engineer-I. The same broad skill area appears: networking, data-centre operations, database administration, firewall, AAA server, routing, switching, subnetting and Linux basics.

Candidates who meet two years but not five years should not stretch the Field Operation Engineer application. A clean Project Engineer-I application with correct experience proof is stronger than an ambitious application for a role that may fail screening.

## Contract period and pay differ by role

Field Operation Engineer engagement is initially for three years and may be extended by up to two more years, making a maximum tenure of five years. The first-year consolidated remuneration is Rs. 60,000 per month, with Rs. 5,000 increase for every year of extension.

Project Engineer-I engagement is initially for three years and may be extended by up to one more year, making a maximum tenure of four years. The first-year consolidated remuneration is Rs. 40,000 per month, again with Rs. 5,000 increase for every year of extension.

BEL also mentions annual consolidated amounts toward insurance premium, attire allowance, stitching charges and footwear allowance. Candidates should still read the offer terms carefully if selected, because project-based contract roles can involve field conditions and travel.

## Selection uses written test and interview

The advertisement describes a pre-registered walk-in selection. Candidates meeting the qualifying criteria must register through the Microsoft Office Form linked from BEL's official website. BEL will later publish venue and timing details in the career section and send email to registered candidates.

The selection gives 85 percent weight to the written test and 15 percent to the interview. Candidates who pass the written test will be called for interview in a 1:10 ratio in order of merit within each role and category.

This format rewards preparation and document readiness together. A candidate may have the right experience but still needs to revise technical concepts, networking basics and project-operation topics before the written test.

## Documents are a serious part of this BEL process

BEL asks candidates to carry proof of date of birth, all education certificates from Class 10 onward, degree certificate, semester marksheets, category or disability certificate where claimed, experience certificates from previous and current employers, and payment receipt where applicable.

For current employment, the notice asks for joining or appointment letter, first and latest pay slip and employee ID proof when current employment experience certificate is not produced. Government and PSU employees need a No Objection Certificate at the required stage.

The experience certificate is likely to be decisive. It should show dates, designation, employer, nature of work and enough detail to connect the candidate's work to the advertised skill area. A vague letter may not prove networking or data-centre experience.

## How to register for BEL field and project engineer posts

1. Open the BEL job notifications page and find the HLS and Smart City Business SBU recruitment notice. 2. Read the detailed advertisement before choosing Field Operation Engineer or Project Engineer-I. 3. Check degree branch, age as on 1 June 2026 and post-qualification experience. 4. Use the official registration form linked for the chosen post. 5. Pay the application fee through the linked SBI Collect route if the fee applies to your category. 6. Save the form copy sent to the registered email address. 7. Carry the printed form, photographs and original documents when BEL announces the walk-in selection venue and time.

Candidates applying for more than one post must submit separate applications and pay separate fees where applicable. Do not assume one form covers both roles.

## Fees and exemptions should be checked before payment

The advertisement lists an application fee of Rs. 450 plus GST for Field Operation Engineer and Rs. 400 plus GST for Project Engineer-I. Candidates belonging to PwBD, SC and ST categories are exempted from payment according to the notice.

Payment is through SBI Collect. The notice asks candidates to enter the SBI Collect reference number in the application form and to use the same mobile number and email ID as in the application.

Because fee once paid is not refunded under normal conditions, candidates should check eligibility first. Paying before confirming degree branch, experience, age and category rules can waste money.

## Who should apply now

This BEL notice is best suited to engineers and MCA candidates with hands-on industrial experience in networking, data-centre operations, database administration and related infrastructure. It is not the right opening for candidates whose experience is only academic, teaching-based or unrelated to the advertised systems.

Field Operation Engineer fits candidates with five years of relevant experience and willingness to work across project sites. Project Engineer-I fits candidates with two years of relevant experience who can support project execution and technical operations.

The deadline gives candidates only a few days from the 3 June run date. If the degree branch and experience proof are ready, register now. If they are not ready, fix the documents before payment and submission.

## Mistakes that can block BEL candidates

The first mistake is missing the registration step. BEL's notice says unregistered candidates will not be allowed to appear for walk-in selections. A candidate who reaches the venue without prior registration may not get a chance.

The second mistake is applying with the wrong specialization. BEL says candidates whose degree specialization does not match the prescribed discipline will not be considered. Read the branch list exactly.

Another common risk is weak experience proof. Appointment letters, relieving letters, pay slips and current-employer documents should support the claimed post-qualification experience. Internship or academic curriculum placements are not counted as relevant experience.

## What to watch after registration

After registration, candidates should monitor the BEL website and registered email for the shortlist, venue, date and time. The advertisement says BEL will publish details in the career section and send email to registered candidates.

Candidates should prepare for both written test and interview. The written test carries most of the marks, but the interview can decide final ranking among candidates who clear the test. Carry originals and photocopies in an organized file.

The safest routine is simple: save the advertisement, save the submitted form, save the payment receipt, and check email daily until BEL announces the walk-in details.

## The skill area is narrower than the title suggests

Field Operation Engineer and Project Engineer are broad titles, but this advertisement narrows the work area. BEL is asking for experience connected to networking, data-centre operations, database administration, firewall systems, AAA server, routing protocols, switching protocols, DNS, subnetting and Linux basics. Candidates should read those lines as the real job signal.

An engineer with strong manufacturing, QA, embedded systems or purely software-testing experience may still need to check whether their record fits the advertised domain. The degree branch may be eligible, but the experience proof also has to make sense. BEL can screen applications on the nature of post-qualification experience, not only on the number of years.

Before applying, write a short private match note for yourself: projects handled, tools used, network or database responsibilities, employer names, dates, and certificates available. If the note is thin, the application may also be thin.

## The walk-in model needs travel planning

BEL says venue and time details will be published later and emailed to eligible candidates. The written test and interview can be on the same day or on subsequent days immediately after written-test results are announced. Candidates should make travel plans with that uncertainty in mind.

Applicants from outside the selection city should avoid booking travel that assumes a one-hour process. Carry enough time for reporting, document checks, written test, result announcement and interview. If the interview runs into the next day, a rushed return ticket can become a problem.

Keep originals, photocopies and the printed registration form in separate sleeves. At a walk-in selection, document handling is faster when the file is ordered. A candidate who spends ten minutes searching for a pay slip or caste certificate can create unnecessary stress before the written test.

## Experience proof should describe actual work

BEL's notice asks for post-qualification experience certificates from previous and current employers, and where current experience certificate is not available, joining letter, first and latest pay slip and employee ID proof. Those documents prove dates, but candidates should also make sure the nature of work is clear.

For networking and data-centre roles, a certificate that only says "worked as engineer" may not be enough to explain routing, switching, database administration or firewall exposure. Candidates should carry project letters, role descriptions or employer-issued experience details where available and allowed.

Do not alter documents or add self-made claims. If the employer cannot issue a detailed certificate before the deadline, carry what is official and be ready to explain the work honestly in the interview. False information can lead to disqualification at any stage.

## Fee payment should follow the exact category rule

The fee differs by role, and exemptions apply to PwBD, SC and ST candidates. Candidates who apply for more than one post need separate applications and separate fee payment where applicable. That means a candidate applying for both Field Operation Engineer and Project Engineer-I should not assume one payment is enough.

Use the SBI Collect route linked through the official notice or BEL page. Keep the reference number because the application form asks for it. The mobile number and email ID used for payment should match the application details as far as possible.

Payment should come after eligibility review, not before it. The advertisement says fee once paid will not be refunded under normal circumstances. A candidate who pays first and then notices an experience mismatch has created a preventable loss.

## Written-test preparation should be practical

The written test carries 85 percent weight, so it deserves more than a last-day glance. Candidates should revise networking fundamentals, routing, switching, VLANs, subnetting, firewalls, database concepts, Linux basics and troubleshooting situations connected to project operations.

The interview may test whether the candidate has actually handled the systems listed in the advertisement. Be ready to describe real incidents: a network outage, a database access issue, a firewall rule change, a monitoring problem, a site rollout or a coordination challenge. Keep the explanation factual and concise.

Because these are project posts, BEL may value candidates who can work at sites, handle field pressure and communicate clearly with teams. Technical knowledge matters, but so does the ability to keep a project moving when equipment, people and deadlines all collide.

## Candidates should choose the role before collecting papers

The two roles look related, but the experience threshold changes the application strategy. A candidate with four years of strong networking experience may be close to the Field Operation Engineer profile, yet the advertisement asks for five years. Applying for Project Engineer-I may be more defensible if the documents clearly prove two years but not five.

The reverse is also true. A candidate with more experience should not assume Project Engineer-I is easier if the career record actually fits Field Operation Engineer better. Pay, tenure, age limit, responsibility and competition can differ. Choose the role that matches the strongest document-backed version of your profile.

Before submission, compare the application form against the advertisement line by line: role, branch, age, experience, fee, category and email ID. The best BEL application is not the longest one. It is the one where every claim can be backed by a certificate, pay slip, appointment letter or employer record.
