Role details
Indian Railways' CEN 02/2026 covers **6,557 Technician vacancies** across Railway Recruitment Boards, zonal railways and production units. The official total includes 323 Technician Grade I Signal posts and 6,234 vacancies across 24 Technician Grade III categories. Online applications close at **11:59 pm on July 29, 2026**.
## The vacancy table covers signal and 24 trade categories
Technician Grade I Signal is a Level 5 post. The Grade III vacancies are Level 2 posts across trades and functions including track machine, blacksmith, bridge, carriage and wagon, diesel electrical, diesel mechanical, electrical, refrigeration and air conditioning, signal and telecom, fitter, machinist, carpenter, painter and welder categories. Candidates must use Annexure A and Annexure B of the [official CEN 02/2026 notification](https://www.rrbthiruvananthapuram.gov.in/assets/pdf/Detailed_CEN_02_2026.pdf) to match their qualification, medical standard, chosen RRB and railway or production-unit vacancy.
## Eligibility depends on the selected Technician category
The notice does not use one qualification for all 6,557 posts. Technician Grade I Signal accepts specified engineering or science degree and diploma routes. Grade III categories generally require the relevant Matriculation or SSLC plus ITI, Course Completed Act Apprenticeship, or another qualification expressly listed against that category. A candidate whose prescribed final qualification result is still pending on July 29 is not eligible.
The age band, medical standard and disability suitability also vary by post. Candidates should select only categories for which every educational, trade and medical condition is met. The common application can include eligible preferences within the chosen pay level, but the chosen RRB cannot be changed after account creation.
## Application submission closes before the fee window
The [official RRB application portal](https://www.rrbapply.gov.in/) accepts forms until 11:59 pm on July 29. The fee-payment deadline is July 31, while the modification window is scheduled for August 1 to August 10. Those later dates do not extend the initial application deadline.
Applicants should complete account verification, post preferences, qualification entries, document uploads and the final form before the portal closes. Save the submitted application and payment record. Use only official RRB sites; the boards warn candidates against touts and fake recruitment pages.
## Selection has three main stages
Selection proceeds through a computer-based test, document verification and the prescribed railway medical examination. Final appointment depends on merit, eligibility, category claims, document validity, medical fitness and the vacancies available when the panel is formed.
